What would you do if your father won 90 million dollars in the lottery and decided that it was God’s plan for him to give it all away? That’s just one of the dilemmas facing young Danny Monahan in Becoming an Ocean.  Set in Wisconsin’s Fox River Valley in the days before social media ruined all of our attention spans, Becoming an Ocean is the coming of age story Danny as he navigates through school, love and tragedy on his way to adulthood.  

Faced with a quirky father, an absent mother and loads of insecurity, Danny runs the  gauntlet of adolescence while tackling the absurdity of his father, a confusing love life and unspeakable tragedy.  

Becoming an Ocean is a fast-paced, heartbreaking and, ultimately, rewarding journey through the mind of a young man in those most formative of years.

SEAMUS MURPHY
Seamus Murphy was born and raised in Neenah, Wisconsin, in the heart of the Fox River Valley.

He spent the first twenty years of his adult life working with the developmentally disabled, a vocation that was both rewarding and heartbreaking.  He gave up those pursuits to work as a customer service representative in the paper industry.

He is now engaged in his third career as a writer. Seamus is a reluctant widower, a proud father and a new grandfather.  He currently resides in Milwaukee, Wisconsin.
